I'm using RH9 running Gnome, and I've downloaded and installed IceWM. What I want to know is how do I go about changing my window manager from the default Bluecurve to IceWM in Gnome?

The easiest way is that if you have your runlevel set to 5, select IceWM from the session menu when you log in.

of course if it's not in your session menu when you log in do the following: http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=65583 just simply change fluxbox to whatever WM you feel like using, I've got about 15 window managers on my dropdown menu all by do this.

redhat nine

i've followed the links on this thread to add a window manager to the drop down list ( i want sawfish) and that part works. however, when i tell it to log in using sawfish it just kinda hangs/sits at a black screen for ages. nothing happens.

i am not sure if i am using gdm,xdm or anything else. i've ps-aux | grepped for gdm and xdm adn they come up as negative. anyone else have these problems with redhat nine?

wow good searching, however I can't help ya out as sawfish does the same exact thing for me too.

it seems that redhat 9 uses metacity as the default window manager. even when i disable this and tell it to use gdm, sawfish won't work.

oh well, i found a work around to what i wanted to do anyway. thanks for all the (existing) help
