Where could I find free computers that I could put Linux on or is already installed on? I know some people have 'connections' to people who can get free 486's for free and supply you computer parts all the time or some such story, but I know no one like that. I wouldnt really care if it was parts either.. I just bought a main Linux Box on ebay that can run Xwin and I just wanted a seperate box to run command... Dunno I have a dream to have a desk 'L' shaped desk with Linux computers and parts laying everything where and computers opened and such... and have Xwin running and computers with command prompt and them on a LAN too muahahaha! lol. sorry. :) Anyways is there a place that will do that or any other ideas? Thanks for you time. :D

This is exactly what I'm going to do, as soon as I can get my upgrade parts.
Gonna rebuild what I have, and share a network connection (hopefully DSL) between 2 family members' computers. Instant 4-way LAN. Well, not quite instant. Gonna be my first experience with any kind of LAN. Probably gonna screw it up for at LEAST a few days.
As for free parts? Good luck, mine are gonna cost me more than I want to admit (running total: $615, not counting the case I have to buy). Oh, well. it'll be a fun project. :)
I was doing some figuring the other day, I came to the conlusion that I could build a decent linux box for about $300. or so, expecially with memory and most all other hardware prices dropping as they are.
What started the entire thing was, I've got this old p200 with a failing PS or MOBO, I'm not sure which, it just powers down / reboots for no reason half the time. A new PS for this particular case (its an old compaq) is $100. So why spend $100. on just a PS....
I think I'll compile a list of hardware and vendors I was looking at if anyone's interested....

Triangle Computers sells low-end Linux systems for about $300, if you don't wanna build one yourself. I think K6/333, 32MB, on-board sound and video that works with Linux, 10BaseT ethernet, mouse+keyboard, no monitor, no used parts. I dunno if I'd buy one -- you can get "network applicance" things with similar specs for less -- but it's kinda cool.

bdl... I just finished fixing a friends pc that had the same problem as it kept rebooting itself all the time. Sometimes right after post and others while windows was up. It ended up being the cpu.

Best advice I can give is to head on over to your local computer market and pick up some second hand parts, they are usually towards the end of the month in the uk and advertised in the local papers
Hope this helps :)
