I'm in need of a program that password protects, or at least makes read-only, pdf files. I'm going to be using this for work, so the last thing I need is other people changing some of the things. I've managed to create the pdf files from OO, but I can't seem to figure out how to password protect them. I could only come across a couple of excrypters for linux on google, of which the download link doesnt work and the other is java souce files (???). Any suggestions would be great! Thanks

could you just change the permissions on the file so others can't open it.

I only found

PGP encrypt it. Password protected PDF files are a joke. This is the
classic content protection issue (a la SDMI etc) which just isn't
possible.

in a quick G4L search for "password protect pdf".

Search for AES or Blowfish. They're both encryption/decryption methods that are perfectly secure for what you're trying to do. They're not PDF specific though, so if you're looking for something which automatically asks for a password when you open it in XPDF or Acrobat or whatever, then they aren't suitable.
