I'm currently trying to install Gentoo (via the LiveCD), but I can't get my networking card to work. I have a Dell L566cx and I'm using whatever the thing is that is built into the motherboard. It doesn't autoconfigure it, running "net-setup eth0" and choosing the DHCP option doesn't work, nor does running "dhcpcd eth0" I can only see my lo (loopback, right?) connection when I run "/sbin/ifconfig" I really have no idea what to do from here so any help would be much appreciated! I mean I do know what to do after I get the card configured, but to get it configured, I'm .

It might help if we knew the ethernet card the Dell uses.

Try their site or manual.

Unfortunately nothing there to help.

Also I could not find the Dell model at http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/dell.html

Hopefully another member has the same laptop and can offer assistance on the NIC model and module/driver it uses.

It's actually a desktop... anyway I found a SuSE LiveEval CD I burned a while ago. Here's some of what it said about my networking card:
82559 Fast Ethernet Lan on Motherboard
Bus: PCI
Class (spec) : Ethernet controller
Class : Network controller
Device (spec) : 82559 Fast Ethernet LAN on moterboard
Device : 82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100]
Device identifier (spec) : 77924
Device identifier : 70185

Let me know if I'll need to know anything else. Thanks!

I believe it either uses (more likely) the eepro100 module or the e100. It's a Intel ethernet card.

Any option during the installation to load the eepro100 module?

Gentoo should have that option as I've installed Gentoo on my main workstation at work which uses the eepro100 module.
