Hi, I'm having some difficult with Slackware 9...
I can't start X, it just gets the light of the button of my monitor weaker, like when too much time passes and it switch "mods" to save energy, my slackware is full-installed, I have a GeForce FX 5200 and I think that this is my problem, I can use "xf86cfg" with my mouse working perfectly but X just doesn't starts! It looks like slackware has support to GeForce FX 5800 but not to mine, I got some help with an IRC channel, and compiled the kernel with help os some guys, but I just don't know what options to choose in the menuconfig, I know some of them but not all, I tried to run the driver of NVIDIA Video Boards, but it doesn't find what's necessary in the kernel (2.4.20), internet is working normally but I don't use it because I don't have X working! Somebody please help me.

Sorry if the english is bad, I'm from Brazil and I am just 14 years old.

i dont think that recompiling the kernel had much to do with this, I bet your problem is when you installed Slackware, it didn't have the kernel-source package on the CD, i suggest downloading it (ftp.slackware.at is a good mirror) and install that, that should let the NVIDIA mods compile, you could also try to set your device in /etc/X11/XF86Config and change the "vesa" driver to "nv" in the device section!

as you said, it was that simple!
I can't even believe I have X working now!
