I am using KDE 3.1 under Mandrake 9.1 to autostart two applications: KSim 1.0.0 and Superkaramba 0.27 with the Kroller 0.93 theme.

I added a "Link to application" for each app in the $HOME/.kde/Autostart/ directory. KSim runs on command "ksim" and SuperKaramba is linked to the Kroller theme file: "superkaramba /home/user/Documents/Karamba-Themes/1024x768.theme".

KSim starts fine, but shows two icons (one for each virtual desktop) in the systray. I have checked Ksim options, and there is an option to "send window to all desktops" or so. I would like to keep Ksim to display on all desktops, but I don't want a systray icon for each.

After KDE is fully loaded a "Open configurations" window for SuperKaramba pops up. This is the same screen when I right-click a currently loaded Karamba/SuperKaramba theme, and select "add new theme". The result is that I have to hit Cancel before I can "use" my desktop.

How to I prevent these two instances from happening? I know these aren't really problems, but it is annoying to me, personally - I don't like desktop clutter. Ideas are appreciated.
