Hey kids i gotta questions for ya...

I'm ALMOST DONE building my new system (NFORCE2, AXP2800+) and i'm shopping for a graphicks card...

does anyone have any suggestions?

right now i'm looking at some GeForce4 Boards...specifically the MX440 and the Ti4600.

I don't need the latest gaming board, but i would like to do some experimenting with X and such so i would like a good rendering speed...working TVout would be nice too

Does anyone have any experience configuring these GPU's under linux? How compatable are they...Nvidia supplies drivers so i assume they are pretty good...

finally what specific vendor should i choose? i was looking at MSI, but i'm not sure...

Thanks for any help or advice on choosing a graphics board...it is much appreciated

nvidia has the best driver support of all 3D cards. their drivers work for a all their cards.

i only have a GF3 so i don't have any advice on the GF4s.

mine is an ASUS and it seems to be fine.

I wouldn't get any GF4 MX card if I were you...

The GF2 cards were NV15 chips. The GF3 cards were NV20 chips. The GF4 Ti cards are NV25's, but the GF4 MX's are NV17.

This puts them somewhere between a GF2 and a GF3 for features, speed, etc. Not worth it, if you ask me. A GF4 Ti4200 would probably be better, and is likely close to the same price. If not, it's at least better than the Ti 4600. ;)

Thanks guys! i went with an ASUS GF4 Ti4200...

which is kinda funny since i'm using an asus mainboard with an nvidia chipset...
