I have been running Windows 98 and Linux Mandrake 7.2 on two separate hard drives in one box. GRUB has been my boot loader. This has worked quite nicely, but due to problems with Windows 98, I have decided to install Windows 2000 for the other members of my family... instead of (not in addition to) Windows 98. Since I am getting ready to reformat, I have decided that I would like to try Debian. I've had some questions but have not had luck searching the forums lately. My main concerns are support for UDMA 66 and (in Lilo's case) for larger hard drives. Both of my hard drives are larger than 15 gig. I downloaded the latest Debian release and am wondering if these two hardware issues will give me problems under Debian. Also, I am curious as to whether anyone out there has had any success (or lack of success) dual booting Windows 2000 and Debian (or any other distro for that matter). Thanks in advance for your helpful comments!

:)

P.S. (Please, do not suggest that I give up Windows. The other members of my family are not amenable to that idea!)

I'm pretty sure it does support large disks. Anyway I am running win98 and Debian using lilo and it's very smooth. Many of my friends also use Debian and win and it works :)

Anyway... it won't hurt to try it. You've got nothing to loose but time.

linux in general supports partitions of up to 4 TB (Linux by Michael Kofler), so there should be no probelms, afterall linux is used to create beowulf clusters and administer servers and such, it is very capable of dealing with memory (more so than MS)

I don't have UDMA66 on my machine but I can remember it does support it.
I also dual with win98 and I have had it on with NT4.
Linux is on a second 6gig hd

lilo installs very well during debian, just make sure you edit /etc/lilo.conf so that you can get access to the windows partition (uncomment option, edit /dev/hdxx, prompt, aliases, delay, etc.) fairly easy to do

good luck
