I sent you a PM explaining the reason.

Please review the Community Help Posting Guidelines concerning posting a subject/title that actually relates to the question being posted.

One of the reasons is some members have dialup accounts and do not want to waste their precious bandwidth opening a thread just to find out what the subject is.

Help us to help you.

"help i am a linux mandrake dummy" does not tell us much.

What most likely happened is that your thread was closed due to the totally irrelevant topic/title you selected for your thread.
A title like "Problems installing Java on Mandrake" would be much more appropriate, and its all explained in the "Community Help Posting Guidelines" step 1.

Cheers :)

New form of moderation, I find it completetly astounishing that a thread would be closed because of it's title. If someone doesn't like a title, he/she just have not to click on it. This is the first forum I see, which would delete a thread for that type of reason. I guess, this is in the same line as "read the man page" type of reply.

so, you are saying that a forum that you visit doesn't care if the rules that it has are broken?

Its called guidelines for posting. That's all. There really is no other way of going about it. it is impossible for the man power that we have at this site (the moderators that is), to go change every post that is made. So, the choice was made to simple close or delete the offending post with a note to the thread starter.

If you say so!

I see how you know how to welcome a future linux user.

Start a new thread in the Window/Desktop Managers forum and we'll try to help you. Do not forget to put a meaningfull title, otherwise your thread will become vaporware.

It can be difficult sometimes to think of a good title for your thread. As you become more aquainted with the forum, you will udoubtedly become better at knowing what title to use. (unfortunately, you will probably begin to need less and less general help also.)

When you are writing the title, try to pull yourself out of the specific problem your having. Try to generalize it to something like "Memory problem with <program>" or "Configuration problem with <distro>".

On a side note, you should include in your message as much info as you you can about your distro and any necessary hardware.

That's exactly why I like linux. It does exactly what you tell it to. I'm in the same position as you: having to learn new commands. This is my third time around fiddling with Linux, and I think I am actually grasping onto the concepts I need to this time around.

Let me point out this thread (http://www.justlinux.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=99909) where we all have a nice little rant about this very issue

Dude, don't give us this mess. Subtle sarcasm doesn't work on this site either. Don't act like it isn't a big deal or front as though you are indifferent to the situation. Just use your windows or give us a more meaningful description of the question or problem you want resolved.

I would have to agree with you, I only log into Linux to do..... actually nothing. That's why I am glad I dual booted with Windows. I am so mad at Linux. I havent DONE ONE THING WITH LINUX!

All I did was solve problems, one problem leads to another, etc, etc. Its pissing me off.

See, I play with Windows, I login to windows to do everything, I log into Linux to do nothing but get stressed out, ya know what I am saying? Nothing works in Linux.

I hope one of these days, the problem chain will end. I used Linux a long time ago.

Alrighty...on that note...

and if you can't get anything working in Linux, your probally trying to fix the wrong problem...
