recommend me a camcorder.

Im looking to spend about $400 --> $600, and I dont know what to look for. I looked on ebay and it seems that Sony is a popular brand, but other then that Im clueless. So any suggestions on brands/models/features/linux compatibility or whatever other recomendations would be cool.

I think Sony's are good cameras. The interface is ilink aka firewire. My dad has one and it works great in windows. Wouldn't have a clue on linux support.

None of my computers run Windows, so it working with Linux with either usb or firewire would be the selling point for me.
