We're going to pull the peripherals out of one machine and put them in another with a slightly faster processor and more memory. Is there anything I should look out for?

What are you asking?
Wear a grounding strap.

=), lol, i've upgraded redhat before but never upgraded hardware, and was just wondering if there are any specifics or quirks, IE ~ will the system automagically update the larger amount of memory or do I have to specify, same with the processor? Will the eth0 and eth1 stay the same even the cards are the same though the MOBO is different?

you will probably want to re-compile the kernel for the new hardware. Other than that, it should work the same, you if you have two of anything, ie NICs, then you will want to double check that.

Otherwise I think you can do a plug and play. You probably want some form of a current rescue disk around just in case all blows up.

Nathan.

I know this is off topic, but I usually just update from the lastest kernel rpm from redhat so is there away to simply recompile, would I need the source?

Thanks for your time

I'm pretty much doing the same upgrade. Sort of. I'm swapping the P3 733 for two P3 933's, plus a new mommaboard, video card etc. Almost a new computer.
I have my grounding strap!!!
