Printer printing ghostscript code (?) ... WTF?

I used apsfilter to set up my printer (epson stylus color 800) and the test print in apsfilter setup worked fine.. But when I try to print anything from opera or gedit or staroffice I get :

PS-Adobe-1.0
CREATOR: QT 2.2.4
.
.
.
and a bunch of garbage-probably raw gs code? Any idea what is going on here? I have set up this same printer/machine on a different installation and never had this problem... I must be overlooking something small.

Make sure you have the a2ps filter installed.
