Where do i find something called kppp in RH LInux 7.1. It is something for dialing an internet connection. I need it so i can modify the modem setting, to tell the modem not to wait for a dial tone. Where can i edit the command strings for the modem?

I forgot to say that i don't have KDE installed. I am working in GNOME.

kppp us KDE's internet dialer. In gnome there is a nice dialup configuration tool in the program menu. Click the footprint, go up to programs go to internet and click on dialup configuration. This will set up everything. then you can use the gnome dialer to get on the net. I am at work now so I am trying to give you this info from memory so if it is not 100% accurate I am sorry but it should be close enough.

But there is no option to turn off waiting for dial tone or setting the modem init strings.

Then install KDE and you will have your KPPP. Otherwise try to make gnome's tools work.
