Killer Apps?

Ah... Linux.. so many distros.. so much different software...

What are some of the "must have" apps for ye ole Linux newbie? Like audio, video, image, networking software? And where are the best places to download them?

Usually, if you get a popular distro such as Redhat or Mandrake, it'll come with the apps most people will need (although, as always, mileages will vary).

As for where to download, try Linuxberg (http://www.linuxberg.com) or Freshmeat (http://freshmeat.net) for starters.
