I’ve currently got 3 partitions on my HD (c,d,e,) Im leaving windows on c for now & I was going to install Red Hat onto e, but have since read its better to put it on the second….d?? to allow easier dual booting is this correct?
Also forgive my basic questions…..but on install how do I specify the install to go onto selected drive?? Will it still be recognised by drive letter D or E? Ive read something about mounts but as a total novice am confused…..Ive tried the help files and they aint that clear…..any help would be greatly appreciated I really want to get into the world of nix….but am currently floundering!!!
Thanks in advance……moxo

First partition on your primary drive = hda1
Second partition on primary drive = hda2..etc.
you can specify the install site from the redhat install.

You get to specify the partition to use during install, but make sure it's empty, because it will be reformatted to a different type, and from that point on windows won't even know the partition exists. There will be no more drive E for windows, only C and D. Linux, on the other hand, should have few(I almost said "no", hehe) problems seeing the windows drives.
