Sound Working (well halfway)

Just installed Mdk 9.1 and I have an Ensoniq 5880 sound card. I installed gmplayer and I only get sound coming out of one channel (left), I tried adjusting the balance in mplayer and all that did was turn sound off when I tried to adjust it all the way to the right.

Is there someplace that I am overlooking here that would have balance settings that would be off?

And I just realized that this is only in MPlayer. In XMMS, I have both channels. MPlayer is also giving me an error. "audio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: Device or resource busy"
But even with that error, I still get one channel of audio.

Any ideas?

Make sure nothing else is running that us using sound, so turn of xmms or anything else that uses sound, then try to run mplayer.

XMMS isn't running anymore, and I'm not getting that resource conflict error anymore, but it's still only coming out of one channel.
