Alright.

I am running Slack 9.0. I got it from an FTP site as an .ISO and burned it, booted it, installed it, and now I'm on it. I have a friend who now, after seeing the wonder that is linux, wants it. He has set aside a disk and everything. Just one problem......it won't install. It won't even boot. The CD is bootable.....and he has the same .ISO file I do.......here is what we have tried.

A new CD-R
The floppy boot disk
The floppy install disks
every different way you can think of to get the .ISO on to CD
as well as checking the boot order in the BIOS

It appears as though it will not touch anything that doesn't have Bill Gates seal of approval on it. (It will boot the XP CD, as well as a MS boot floppy)

I can't figure it out. It is a VA motherboard with a P4, and an Award BIOS. any help is appriciated!

I recomend just giving him your copy without copying it.. if you've done that already....

Put the isoon a hardrive and boot from the boot floppy.

Or use windoze to utilize the windoze linux booter (it sets boot to start linux when you restar windoze)

Well, here are some things that would help us help you...

First, a better thread topic would be in order. Maybe "Slackware installer won't boot on VA motherboard"? Some people won't even look at a topic unless they have a descriptive title.

But, what type of hardware does the system have? What messages does it give you? Does the machine boot the floppy/CD, then freeze, or does it not even check the floppy/CD?
