I just upgraded my RH 7.0 system to 2.4.1. When compiling I tried to put a lot of stuff in the kernel that I knew I needed, like my scsi drivers, ide, usb and sound. Unfortunately I don't know what needs to be updated so that when booting it doesn't bother with attempting to load the modules. Could somebody tell me which scripts handle this?

Also, during bootup it tries to load devmouse for the usb mouse driver (I think). This fails, although the mouse is working. How do I get it to stop this?

You know, I really don't know the proper way to do that either and I would really like to see a good reply to this question.

But here is what I did with Mandrake Linux:

I went into /etc/rc.d/init.d and renamed the startup scripts that were giving me error messages after the kernel upgrade.
