I have just loaded Red Hat 7 on to my computer and am using KDE. I have noticed that as I move my mouse around it freezes while the computer accesses the hard drive. Sometimes I have to wait to type as well. Could there be some problem with memory managament? I have 98Mb ram, more than enough I think to run Linux. The swapspace is set to 32Mb. What's the deal? How do I fix this? :(

I've had problems like that in KDE. It depends on what I was running. I haven't had it happen in a while...

I don't think your RAM is bad, but if you still want to know for sure check this out: http://reality.sgi.com/cbrady/memtest86/

You may want to add some swap space, but I don't think you have too little to cause this type of problem. What happens if you open the /dev directory?

i hope someone can help me quickly, i tried running that prog on my Windows box (i think it has bad ram) and now it just flashes lines like: X:0001 (the 4 numbers change) is there supposed to be a menu for this?

Man! Read the website (under "known problems"): it says something about that x:xxxx
BX:xxxx
foo
foo

problem...

FoBoT: You're welcome!

<EDIT> Gaccm I didn't know that either! I just happened to read it about 2 hours before you posted! :)

If I enter the /dev directory, the mouse comes to a crawl. Something seems seriously wrong. Why doesn't my mouse move smoothly? It seems to get stuck whenever I am running numerous programs in the background a la Windows95. I have a K6-2 400, isn't this fast enoguh to handle Linux?

I'm not sure if your swap space has anything to do with it but I will say you have to little. Rule of thumb is to have double or triple the amount of ram for a swap space...
food for thought.
