Hi,

I have here a Siemens PCD-4ND Laptop , 486Dx50 20MB Ram 500MB HD 1,44 FD, and I installed debian via floppy ( yes 20 disks) and much software ( much more disks ) . Now I want X I tried SVGA but there appears a black screen with 2 redlines from left to right. An ctrl + Alt + Backspace dont help to get back. A SVGA16 Server cant connect and the monochromserver show the same blackscreen . Any ideas ? :confused: :confused:

I bet it should be SVGA.
First thing to try:
in 'Section "Device"' of your XF86Config specify
Option "no_bitblt"
or
Option "noaccel"

It may start working. If it doesn't, keep "no_bitblt" and in the section "Monitor" change clock entry for the mode you want to use (800x600? 640x480?). This is the first number in the 'Modeline' line. Clocks to try take from the line 'Clocks' of the section "Device", starting from the biggest value down.

Make sure you specify correct amount of video RAM !

BTW: on your hw X will be veeeeery slow.
