Hi I am very new to linux and I just my cable connection a few days ago. I have not done any configuration on my Mandrake 7.2 and during the startup check at it says something about dhcpcd unable to detect. Please enlighten me on how I can go about getting cable to work in linux. By the way I am located in Canada and is using Rogers AT&T cable connection. Thanks

That is a bit much of info to go over quickly. I suggest going to
www.linuxdoc.org (http://www.linuxdoc.org)
And checking out their Cable Modem Howto. I am not sure if there is a NHF on it here....

actually i was just hoping people who are using rogers@home too to help me out a little.
i am pretty sure that cable modems should be setup as a Local Area Network, thats how i do mine, and if you know the details IP, subnet mask, default gateway, and the IP of your name server set it up as a static IP, if you do not know the details use DHCP...
happy trails :)

Is your ethernet card up and running?
ifconfig - will tell you
Did Rogers give you a pci ethernet card?
The Mandrake online documentation looks quite good and helpful. Have you tried that?

You may also want to search through the vast amount of cablemodem threads in Hardware, Networking and Technical forums.
