I am currently running win2k pro and want to install redhat 7.0 on a separate partition of my hard drive. According to redhat's support documentation, you shouldn't install a workstation-class installation (what I want to do) on a system running win NT (http://www.redhat.com/support/manuals/RHL-7-Manual/install-guide/s1-install-installpath.html) as LILO will write over NT's boot loader and you'll be unable to boot NT. Does this also ring true with windows 2000, as it's a NT-based OS as well?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

when i had win2k and linux dual booting, i just used the win2k ntloader to choose the os. i dont' remember how to get an image of your parttion to boot off of, but look it up in the forums here. I believe it was Sweede who said it. It's realy easy though

That's just Bill trying to scare you off. I have three multi-boot PC's, one of which is triple-boot with Win2K, Win98, and Linux. I used Grub as my bootloader and it had no problem detecting Win2k's bootloader (which I believe is the same as NT's).
However, to be safe, you can always back up your bootloader files onto a floppy and restore them in case something goes wrong or you can boot Linux from a floppy disk and not install lilo on your hard drive.
Don't let dual-boot phobia stop you from getting into Linux 'cause you'll be sorry later. :)

it is easy...
edit lilo.conf, and put there a line like this:
boot=/mnt/c/bootsect.lin
(or where you have that linux bootsector. It must be a 512 bytes file.)
then edit nt's boot.ini, and add there this kind of line:
c:\bootsect.lin="Linux"

Yea, I just recently installed Mandrake 7.2 ona 20 gb HD w/ Win98 and Win2K. A grub bootloader first comes up, then when I choose windows--it goes right to the NT loader. No problems at all for me and I was a complete newbie :)
Now if I could just get my damn linksys nic to work....
