i'm just trying to run an update and it's taking a fscking ETERNITY!

also can i add a site for apt-spy (http://packages.debian.org/unstable/admin/apt-spy.html) without inadvertantly getting other unstable stuff?

What about trying ftp.us.debian.org or http.us.debian.org? I don't see a problem removing ftp.debian.org just as long as you replace it with another mirror. Is this what you were asking? I've found that http.us.debian.org runs the fastest for me.

Can't help on your second question

not sure what you mean by "add another site for apt-spy" but you can use the -d flag to specify the branch you're interested. does that help any?

When I ran apt-spy I just changed the three mirrors it gave me to the branch I wanted. Since they're best guesses anyway, I don't think it matters.

You can create your own site list as a text file then use the command : apt-spy -d STABLE -f <file> to benchmark just the stable branches

bleh.

once this bloody download finishes i'll just take debian.org off the list. i've got three mirrors listed in front of it, but they must be updating slow.

tried using netselect to pick a fast mirror... it picked one that just had empty directories. i'll run and update with my current mirrors list and then go from there.
