i've downloaded the Win32 codecs, put them in the right directory, i can even play DivX and assorted other codecs, but everytime i try and play a .wmv, it comes up with the "If this is an AVI, ASF, or MPEG Stream, Contact The Author", i've tried more than one WMV, all from different sites n' the like, still nothing. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you put the codecs in the /usr/lib/win32 directory before or after you compiled mplayer?

Mplayer doesn't support win32 codecs unless they are in the appropriate directory before you run the configure script for mplayer.

If you did put them in the directory before you compiled then I have no clue as to what's wrong.

i reconfigured/compiled mplayer again, and after it gets done, i try and open a vid and still, nothin'. the codecs are in the /usr/lib/win32 directory, but i still can't play WMVs or ASF

Did you download the win32 codec from the mplayer project page? I think there is another win32 codec made for the avi file project that will work with mplayer, but not play all the formats that the mplayer one does.

i found the problem, it wasn't with the MPlayer i was working on, it was with the MPlayer i didn't even know was installed that came with SuSE, haha. so i tried it from the command line and mplayer played my WMVs like a charm. stupid me.
