PLBlaze 10-26-2001, 09:19 PM Many Linux distributins that came last year were based on 2.2.x series of kernel because there was no other stable kernel unless they used 2.4.x-test experimental series. On Jan 4th 2001 Linux officialy released kernel 2.4.0... Keep in mind that even if distro comes with 2.2.x that does not mean you can't use other kernel...the choice is the one you choose and compile it yourself. And to answer your question, i think debian stable uses 2.2.x.Can any of debian users confirm this? (since on one replied)... s l a c k w a r e  [ 26 October 2001: Message edited by: Diffie ] scanez 10-26-2001, 09:59 PM Yes, Debian 2.2.x (atable, aka potato) installs kernel 2.2.x (17 I think) by default. But that doesn't mean you can't upgrade to a newer kernel. SC jon787 10-26-2001, 11:05 PM How do you figure out which kernel you are using in the first place? nuisance 10-26-2001, 11:07 PM cat /proc/version scanez 10-26-2001, 11:48 PM Originally posted by nuisance: cat /proc/version Or uname -a justlinux.com
