The 't' key on my keyboard is doing very odd things - it works perfectly on the login box, and for a short while after logging in. Then it stops working until I logout again.

wtf?

I've figured out that the 't' key only works when num lock is off - why is this?

*morning*

*not yet through first cuppa coffee .. so no grins yet*

You note that the kb performs mostly okay except for the T key which only works with numlock off... further that this occurs in Xwindows.
Try (before we go through replacing keyboard) testing this theory in a CLI window .. (alt-cntl-f1 will likely put you in a CLI window ..without X) ... if you cannot duplicate the problem there I would suspect that the KB loaded to your X window session either had corrupt data in it or was the wrong keyboard. If either of the above is true, try switching keyboards in X .. I note that there are about 3 keyboards that should work with the standard computer keyboard.
One other point, .. if the problem continues with the new keyboard loaded, you MIGHT have a bit of a bios problem. Some BIOS setups let you alter the timing/clocking function that FEEDS the keyboard. I've found that I can run my keytronic lifetime KB at 16Mhz, but in a test I tried putting an older keyboard on and found that it acted quite bizarrely (keystrokes mistranslated, function keys that rebooted windows, etc) and I had to roll the clock for the keyboard back to 8Mhz.

Hope the above helps ... and
Dammit .. who drank my coffee?
