ok well i just got linux and installed it any everything. i booted it up for my first time, and it is really nice. ok well, i tried to open the web browser it has, and since i have a cable modem i thought i would be able to go to websites. but it said like unknown host, and i dont know if it detected my ethernet card or not because i do not know if it is compatible, its made by "f=ma" its like an unknown company i guess. but all i want to know is how do i install my ethernet card so i can go online with linux? once i get online then it will be good for me because im getting sick of windows lagging and all that. well if anyone knows, please post. thanks - joka

Which distrobution of Linux do you have. (Mandrake, RedHat, Slackware, etc.) If we know that, there may be an easier way for you to detect your card that we can give you.

Another suggestion as well, if you have between $5.00 and $15.00, the netgear fg311 netowrk cards work great and are the cheapest. I wentr to best buy for example and they actually were selling these puppies for $5.00 (I bought 10, but ima geek :p ).

Also, have you typed ifconfig at the prompt? Do you have a firewall? I use cable to access the internet as well, works great for whatever flavor of Linux is currently installed :D

Good luck!
