First post and first install of Linux. When I start the install of Linux, I recieve the following error on the blue screen.

Running anaconda - please wait...
exec: Input/output error
install exited abnormally
Sending termination signals...done
sending kill signals...done
sending kill signals...done
disabling swap...
unmounting filesystems...
/mnt/runtime
/mnt/source umount failed (1)
/dev/pts
/proc
you may safely reboot your system

I have also tried to install from a Win98SE startup disk, but the install errors out also.

Please help.

Try changing the 'plug and play operating system' settings in your BIOS. Make sure that the HDD settings are correct (in relation to speed).

Are you booting directly from the CD? If not, try.

Yes, I am installing from the cd and have changed the plug and pray OS. The hdd settings seem to be correct.
