This is a question I pose to all of us Linux users: How long will it be before SCO and Microsoft use their subversive abilities and massive monetary funds to crush the community? In their letter to the public, SCO is practically asking to make Linux illegal and (if I am reading this correctly, if I am not, forgive me) asking ordinary users like ourselves to surrender what we have and to pay royalties. In my mind, this is an out and out declaration of war against our community (although Microsoft has been pulling anti-Linux maneuvers and FUD for the past few years).
As ordinary users, what can we do? If the courts decide in favor of SCO, what can we really do? The only thing we have is our solidarity as a community to fight them back. As I understand it, we have no real legal representation, except for IBM who is on the opposing side of this argument. The FSF, GNU, and other organizations are all non-for-profit groups who would have a hell of a time fighting back a legal assault by corporate giants like SCO.
So the ultimate question is, what weapons do we have to hold back the enemy as he kicks in our front door?
