When I install Slackware, I basically install just the basics. In the A packages, I only install the core/required packages, plus the IDE kernel and the timezone package. I do pretty much the same thing with the Networking packages. However, when I hit the Development packages, I install all the recommended ones. I'm wondering which packages do I really need, and which I don't. I mainly compile the kernel with a few other server applications (Apache, Proftpd, ssh, samba, etc). I don't know too much about programming/compiling, so I was wondering if any other Slackers know which ones I need and ones I can live without.

Thanks!
