Ok, a little backstory first. I have used win ME on this network for the last two years with no issues. Recently, the M$ software just completely gave up on me (after years of horrible inconsistency), and I was forced to wipe my HD and reinstall an OS. I have used Linux in the past, but havn't touched it since RH 6.1 (or something like that- RH 6.x, anyway) but i decided that i am fed up with Microsoft and wanted to give open-source another try. After doing some research on the subject, i downloaded and installed Mandrake 9.1- and it worked fine in most respects.

Now to my current problem. I am a client on a LAN with some particularly strong Firewall/security features. I have had very little luck in getting my computer to connect to the internet through the firewall, up until recently. I entered the proxy address/port/password into the Galeon proxy setup, and managed to get it to work. I still cannot, however, figure out how to get other programs to access the internet through the proxy server... No matter what i do, nothing seems to work. I enter the proxy addresses, but the programs just don't connect. (FYI- the programs i have been trying are various AIM clients, as well as e-mail programs such as Kmail) I really need to get these connected, but have run out of ideas on how to do it.

When I was connected on ME, i was conncted through the Client for MS networks linked through TCP/IP. The logon client used that protocal, and i think i may need to log on through a similar system to make it work.

If any of you have any idea how i can deal with this problem, your help will be very much appreciated.

I know double posts are frowned upon, but no one seems to have helped me. I still (after a week) cannot figure this out: I have searched the web thouroughly, and came up with nothing. I have talked to my network administrator, who came up with nothing but "We only support windows 2000", which is untrue on several counts. I think that i am just missing something simple in some configuration file, and i just don't know which one.

Not to be horribly rude and shout, but:

IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS, PLEASE HELP!!!
