I am wondering if there is any way under Linux that you can track users on a network, accessing the internet. These users would be between a couple of computers and the other machines aruse windows machines. Samba is being used for files, not that would help much, but the user name needs to be logged somehow.
Thanks in advance.

Google search results for tracking users on the network (http://www.google.com/linux?site=search&restrict=linux&hl=en&q=track+users+on+a+network&btnG=Google+Search).
Not sure if it's what your looking for, but I guess better than nothing. I did read a couple and one of them has rpm packages for networking stuff such as rwho and others.

Wouldn't a proxy server be able to track this? I think Squid has the option, I'm just starting to get into proxies so I'm not too sure.
