This maybe a very dumb question, but...I am used to Windoze when adding components post install. I have an asus motherboard, with dual AMD processors (350MHz), running Red Hat with kernel v. 2.2.12-20. I recently added more ram to my system - it previously had 384MB. I added more ram to the system to boost performance, it now has 640MB. After Red Hat install the system recognized all of the ram but...since I added more ram, the OS only sees 384MB (the system upon bootup saw 640MB). Is there something else I need to do in the OS for the system to see more than 384MB's?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

log in as root and edit your /etc/lilo.conf file..

in there there should be a line saying something to the effect of "append=mem=384M"

change the old value to the new value of 640 and reboot.

dont you need to rerun /sbin/lilo before rebooting?

this puts the changes into effect i thought

put me right if im wrong though

After I update /etc/lilo.conf, is there anything I have to do afterwards for the changes to take effect? ;)

The line should be:

append="mem=640M"
