No, but if you get static when you play mp3 it could be the cable of the speakers that is very close to electricity, or the speakers are not that good.

I get static on a lot of songs in Linux.
when I boot to windows its perfectly clear though..so I know its not my cables.

I think its just xmms or something, doesnt work as good as winamp.

oh,i can play mp3s clearly with xmms, but i'm not always in X...so i was wanting to use mpg123...and its strange type of static...not an interference type of static...it's strange...i can also write mp3s to wav's using mpg123 & they come out clear, so i just don't know why it's doing it.

Grab the source from www.mpg123.de (http://www.mpg123.de) and compile it yourself. Most distros compile it for a 386 but mpg123 has a bunch of compile options for optimizations. Like for my AMD K6-2 processor the command to make it is:

make linux-3dnow

The README will show all of the options. HTH.
