hello all

Once again I turn to your help on yet another issue.

sometimes I receive in my email avi and mpg movies.

How can I see them in Linux?
Is there a good program for this?

Thank you

I use xanim for avi and mtv/mtvp for mpg files. You can also view these in Netscape (4.7x, don't know about 6.x) using the plugger plugin.

I mainly use mplayer both although at times I use gtv for mpg/mpeg.

Xine http://xine.sourceforge.net/

Mplayer http://mplayer.dev.hu/homepage/

avi-xmms plugin http://www.xmms.org/plugins_input.html

I use the avi-xmms plugin.

xmovie is another good one, and free (as in beer, unlike mtv). it can play quicktime movies, too, and I ^think^ avis.

According to the xmovie site:
http://heroinewarrior.com/xmovie.php3
It won't play any Quicktime movies you download from the internet because those are compressed with Sorenson Vision.

This makes it rather useless to most people as a quicktime player.

I don't see any mention of avi support.

i use mplayer for mpeg and a program called avifile-player for avi.

or aviplayer... something like that.

Yeah, you are thinking of a library called 'avifile' and the player it packs with is called 'aviplay'. It's not bad, with the xmms plugin, it's way better. I use mplayer for everything though, and i use VLC (VideoLAN Client) for DVD playing.

The only thing I cannot play is QT .movs
