Hello,
I recently purchased a APC SmartUPS for my RH 7.0 server. The software installed fine, but it can only be configured in an X environment. The default installation did not include any sort of window manager, and this is the only thing we need it for.

So I was wondering which RPMs I need to install to allow me to type startx, run the powerchute configuration software, and exit. If this requires a full gnome install, then so be it.

Also, I have client machines running Gnome (RH 7.0), so if there was a way to export the graphics and rlogin from a client and get this to work, I'd probably try that. export display = .... did not work.

thanks,
Curtas

i think its the same for redhat, but for debian, there is a metapackage, that when you install that 1, it tells you all the other required packages (and installs them by default). You could just compile from source, since you would want to keep servers speedy, and packages are for conveince, not speed. And to answer your question, gnome is not required, unless its required for that specific package.
