sound problem

i am using RH6.2 and audio chip is CM8738.
When I sndconfig I can hear the sample sound.
But when i play audio file such as mp3 or wav, i can see the status bar (xmms)increasing while playing the file. And I change the volume bar in mixer. But I hear no sound from speaker.
The cmpci and soundcore had been inserted and i am login as root.
How comes i hear nothing?

just out of curiosity...

have you tried changing the volume from the mixer settings? ;)

just trying to help... if you already did change the volume through the mixer and still no sound comes from from your speakers, then let's try another approach... :D

try going into prefrences in xmms and changing your sound source

if its set to eSound output, try changing it to OSS Driver or vice versa..

EDIT:: Also, if you have a sound server installed and running in your window manager, sometimes xmms won't work (ie, if KDE makes all those annoying sounds when you maximize, iconify, and log out, try disabling them)
