I just re-installed Slackware 7.1. I choosed not to install the X-window from the cd, because I had downloaded a more recent version.
The installation of the more recent version(4.0.2) went fine. Now all I needed was a window-system. When I tried to configure WindowMaker I got a message that it couldn't find X or X-libraries. The same thing when I tried with Blackbox.

I think there is some enviroment variable I should set or something. Anyone that can help?

Do you have already added a line
/usr/X11R6/lib
in your /etc/ld.so.conf file and rerun ldconfig -v ?
