Okay, I give up!!! i have been beat. Anyway, I am running redhat 7.1 with the 2.4 kernel that is rumored to support the sis 900 ethernet controller. I have done research extensively here and with google to no avail, I am also a total noob. Last time I had this problem was with sound and I just replaced the sound card with a SB something or other, well now I need to do the same with a NIC and I just want to ask which PCI NIC will RedHat recognize right out of the box, I am dual booting xp pro and RH 7.1 so windows will see just about anything. My next project will be to get redhat to see the NTFS file system and see my USB printer, I will win, I just cant get to the internet right now.

That's the spirit. Many more people should be like yourself. Welcome to this forum ( 1st post ). Although I can't help you with this I'm sure someone can. By the way, are you a female? Just curious because of the name "Silky". It helps to know whether or not the person you are talking to is a male or a female... sometimes.

Well, you seem to have a fairly older version of Red Hat, and honestly I'm pretty new to this too. But the one card I have had work is the Realtek cards. I believe the model is the RTL 8139, but I forget exactly which one.

But that's the one card I've had work. I have many problems with network cards and linux too. Hope I helped you a little bit :D

And funny enough, I do the same thing as you. I'm desperate to learn linux, and would love to pull it into full time. I just cannot run it good enough. But that's why
I'm on the JustLinux fourms. God Bless Them
