thanks

I'm using Xine, and it works really good. The problem is that they're not allowed to give ti to you with DeCSS, but you need it to descramble your DVD. I found a website where they ship Xine with DeCSS-support, but I can't remember where, sorry. Just search for xine and decss, perhaps you find it yourself. Then I just installed the rpm. Another thing is that you must use a kernel >=2.2.16, or you have to patch it for DVD-support.

I found the link (downloading the new version of xine this moment :) ). It's http://gape.ist.utl.pt/ment00/linuxdvd.html
Enjoy it!

I had a problem with the version I downloaded from the link in beamy's reply -- kept seg faulting on me :(

If you have the same problem, try downloading and installing the base version of Xine and use the separate plugin at: http://members.nbci.com/captain_css/

This method worked great for me.

There is also LiViD -- a work in progress at present. It seems to have a nicer looking player (if that matters to you) but last time I tried it it didn't have video/sound sync which made it a bit frustrating to use.

I've also heard that VideoLAN (http://www.videolan.org/) is good.

I just downloaded the Xine RPM and installed it on Red Hat 7. You cant just install it because it *****es about your glibc version not being 2.1. Anyway, just do this:
rpm -i --nodeps xine.rpm

I must be doing something wrong. I'm running Mandrake 7.2, I installed xine from rpm. I drag and drop the *.vob file into XINE, then I get a black screen, and it will not play no matter what. What am I doing wrong here? AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

login as root and type ln -s /dev/cdrom /dev/dvd

then start x and start xine up...click the DVD tab and it should read the DVD in your cdrom drive...now, click play

you have to make a symbolic link to /dev/dvd from your DVD drive

Duh? I already did that. I got the beginning graphic of one vob file on the Ninja Scroll DVD to play, but none of the others will work. It seems to be reading my DVD-rom just fine, but maybe it's just not supported very well by Linux. Thanks Anyways you guys! :D
