Hi, I have recently purchased Suse Linux 7.0 Pro, have spent the last 3 weeks trying to get the darn thing installed, (and I thought windoze was a pain). Anyway my problem is that the install prog (Yast2)will not complete, I have the screen showing progress and we get to 100% the last file is the Kernal, the machine pauses, the cd slowes, the floppy sounds like its being accesed, I then get a blue screen with a big red square in it saying "there was a problem with installation" AND THATS IT ! Last night whilst trying again I hit the keys ALT-F3 this gave me another screen, the last two lines read "/usr/lib/yast2/bin/yast2 : Line 203 : 93 segmentation fault y2bignfat "$modulename......."
and
unmount : /var/dam/mount : not mounted
/user/lib/yast2/bin/yast2.start return code is 35584 (error =2)
What is this telling me and how do I fix it ?
I can't wait to use the system, but I am just getting a little fed up at present.

Yast2 can f*ck up if it has no memory enough : did U install some swap (I know Suse 7.0 doesn't install swap by itself if put on a partition) ... Personnaly, I use yast1, wich is not difficult and a lot more stable (no need of memory : I even managed to install without swap at all !)

Thanks for prompt reply, I have 128mb Ram, I would have thought that to be enough, about the swap, Yast2 partitioned brand new disk as follows: Partition 1 (/dev/hde1) as /boot (ext2fs) Partition 2 (/dev/hde2) as swap (swap) Partition 3 (/dev/hde3) as / (ext2fs)
Is that ok or are you saying that the swap partition is not needed

Do you get a square with no writing on it? Some PC's have virus protection in their BIOS. Essentially it stops people from overwriting a drive by posting a message in a box. Check your BIOS to see if you have the virus protection and if you do disable it. I have seen this happen before.

Hoe thats it.

I have the virus protection disabled in the bios, I get a red square with "a problem has occured during setup" as i said I got the ALT-f3 screen which gave me the error messages I mentioned.
