Im about to go wireless. Right now I have one pc running linux, that acts as a router. It has two nics one connected to the dsl modem, one connected to a hub. Then I have a windows 98 machine connected to the hub. I dont want to touch this setup. Im getting a new laptop and I want it to be wireless lan connection on the laptop. All I think I need to do is add a wireless nic to the linux box, and one to the laptop. Anyone out there disagree? You all think this will work?

i would think it should work just fine for you, although getting the cards to talk in adhoc mode might be tricky, my only real experience has been using APs. just make absolutely sure the cards you get work with linux. i have a linksys wpc11 v3.0 for my laptop and it works pretty well although it's an underpowered card. cards using the prism2 chipset work well and whatever chipset orinoco cards have is supposed to work as well. be aware of revision numbers as some companies like linksys have a habit of switching chipsets on you without any warning other than a slight version change.

here is the home page for the linux-wlan project which provides the prism2 driver
