I am new to this whole linux scene, but I love the linux cause, and it's idea. I'm just too used to Windows. Anyway, I am trying ELX Linux, because of it's acclaimed simplicity. I got it installed sucsessfully, and fairly easly. The problem is that I can't get it to display anything! My monitor just shuts off after trying to boot up, and does not come back. Any ideas?

At what point during the boot process does it shut off? Do you get a command prompt to login or are you booting directly into a window manager?

It's after the longon screen. It runs all the applications, and then shows the "localhost login" for a moment, and then goes starts going into the actual GUI, and then the monitor shuts off. Also, maybe this will help-

Video- ATI Radeon 7500
Monitor- IBM G74

Another strange thing I find is that it thinks that my monitor is the G72, but I don't know that it makes any difference in the longrun.

Exactly how old is the latest ELX? The ATI 7500 card is relatively new, that might be a prob. If you are completely new to Linux, you might consider Mandrake. The URPMI tool is fantastic. It takes the pain out of software installation, and is pretty good with hardware.

Yes, I'm using Mandrake now. It is fairly easy, but I was looking for something that could log me into a Win network easy, without Sambia, being that I don't know how to use it. Also, Mandrake doesn't support my network card, so that's another problem. ELX should not be that old because it has ATI 7500 drivers built in. But thanks for the advice.
