Hello all,

I've been trying out various distros and one day in the future I'd like to try out debian. I'm still fairly new to Linux so I'm a bit worried about tackling it now. So I've decided to try out Storm Linux but I recently read that they went Bankrupt. Is this True? And if so does anyone have an opinion about still using it? Otherwise, maybe I'll just give Suse a try.

Thanks,
breef

Storm has went under. Don't let that stop you from installing it.

You have some other options too. Libranet (http://www.libranet.com/) has just released a new version of their Debian based distro. Progeny (http://www.progeny.com/) has a newbie friendly Debian based distro availible also. If you have a burner.

Debian is not that diffucult to install if you do a little research. Get to know what is inside you box. What modules you need. Monitor horizontal and vertical refresh rates. It really is worth the very small extra effort.

Regards,
Rod

Of the Debian based distros, it's my favorite.

There is really no substitution for the real thing though.

In my migration to Debian I used just about all the most popular versions of based distros. Libranet, Storm, Corel, Progeny.

Libranet has fine support if you buy their distro.

I'm using just plain old Debian, but I wouldn't recommend installing it if you're a total newbie unless you have a debian textbook beside you the entire time, and own all the install cd's. I've heard wonderful things about Progeny as far as user-friendliness goes. Corel is user-friendly, but really really sucks...it's a very Micky-Mouse distro. Gotta hand it to them for giving it a go, though. If you're totally new, give Progeny a shot. You should still be able to download and install Storm, but there will be zero tech-support, and no future updates.

I've progressed through most of the distros in the 6 months or so that I've been using Linux. Debian is by far the best.
I am currently using Libranet and I like it alot. I tried Storm but the lack of support became a problem.
Give Libranet a try. They have a new version out which includes the 2.4 kernel and Xfree 4.0.2.
I ordered the upgrade and I'm looking forward to installing it as soon as it arrives.
