also my computer isnt booting when i switch it on every time. its getting power to the disks but then it dosent fire up. ive defaulted the bios settings now.
yet i dont think its gonna work.

im running a p3 600mhz with intel board.

You didn't supply much information on the booting problem.

Does POST complete with no errors? Either a aound indication or message on the monitor.

After post, the BIOS looks at your CMOS setup to find your hardware configuration, and boot sequence. Has anything changed?

Next it should read the master boot record, on the boot drive. You have a partition table in here. Since you have multiple OS's a boot manager program (lilo or grub) is next. Do you get that screen, or an error message?

From here, the user choice should send you off to the boot record for the OS you choose., and things should progress from there.

Post back and give some more details of what you see on the screen.

i booted into debian. i have that installed.
and lilo seems to work fine, and i get the usual mesages at startup. some devices have been removed as i had to change my psu.
everything seems fine.

i got the startup bleep, no messages fro the setup that i didnt get before. unless it has flown by and i havent seen it.
it had happened previously to changing my psu.

I don't see how Freeserve wouldn't like kppp; with it you'll be connecting to them in exactly the same way as if you were using another dialer or a windows machine.

I use slackware, and have been using it since August, and I dial up using kppp (the only KDE app I use :) ). It works fantastically.

heheh niiiiice, you been checkin my cokies eh pinky ;) now you shouldnt be snooping on my machine were supposed to be a friendly community.
Moderator come and get pinky hes been hacking into my machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!

looking at the slackware disc i see what they mean, theres not much on the disc. not even cups so i'l have to download it myself.
the package management seems undecided as to whats going on. am i right in asuming its something akin to apt-get?

although the fact its more bsd might do me some good if i wanna toy with an actual unix os. having to get dirty without a fancy gui for most things will teach me some more. although judgement is still reserved.

is anyone actually using it on these forums?
gentoo seems to be the darling at the moment but i dont have broadband so thats out of the question.

trying it out and its good.

only my web connection is slow it take like 2 mins for this site to fully load up grrrrrrr.

theres like 2 programs on the install disc too lol, which is kinda weired although its fast as hell compared to a debian default install. although it dosent seem to get many plaudits.

is slackware a used distro in the 'real world', servers and networking i take it?
