Hi,

A couple of months ago I installed Caldera's OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4. But everything was extremely slow. Opening programs, such as StarOffice, took minutes, literally. My system is a pentium Compaq, 133mhz, 32MB ram, with a 2.1GB hdd.

I ended up re-installing Windows 95, but now that spring break is here I have time to give Linux installation another try. Any tips on making this OS a little faster on my system? Do I need more RAM?

If you're gonna do a desktop/workstation situation, you're pushing the hardware limits there. More RAM is DEFINATELY recommended. StarOffice is an extremely sophistocated program and is built for the modern machine. Startup takes several seconds on my 800 Athlon with 192 Megs RAM (that may seem short, but compared to everything else it takes a long time). Maybe even the X windowing environment is eating up the majority of your RAM. Are you running Gnome or KDE? If you were, don't run them...they're HUGE memory hogs. Run a more lightweight window manager such as IceWM or BlackBox. They take up very little space in memory.
A 64 meg chip can be picked up for $50. Throw it in and see if it does anything. Might wanna consider overclocking your hd a little too.
