Is there anybody out there in Linux land that has or knows of where one can find a driver for an HP Scanjet 3500c scanner. I am running Mandrake 9.0 (Kernel 2.4.19-16mdk)

I went through this with Mandrake 9.0

Xsane says your scanner is supported with the version that comes with Mandrake 9.0

It's not.

Mandrake says it's supported with 9.0

It's not

The 2.4.19 kernel won't work either.

You could install a new version of Xsane but you can't because most of your libraries are not compadible with the newer version. Update your Libs and most everything else will quit working right after you attempt to battle through dependentcy hell like none before.

Solution: Upgrade to a distro that uses the new version of Xsane and has the 2.4.20 kernel.
I used Mandrake 9.1 beta 3 it worked, Red Hat 9.0 it worked, Slackware 9.0 it worked.
Used Mandrake 9.0 it didn't work, Red Hat 8.0 it didn't work, Slackware 8.1 it didn't work.
If you want to use your scanner download Mandrake 9.1 or Red Hat 9.0 and be done with it.

You can go to the SANE web page at www.mostang.com/sane (http://www.mostang.com/sane) and search for support for your scanner. I have looked, and the 3500c is unsupported by the SANE project at the moment. There is also some commercial software that supports scanners that SANE does not support, but it also doesn't support the 3500c. The URL is www.hamrick.com (http://www.hamrick.com). Be sure to click on the VueScan link for the software.

Weird. I'm pretty sure that's the same scanner I have and the last time I installed Mandrake (8.2 or 9?) I just needed to click the scanner desktop icon and it worked. Mine's connected via USB.

I have ordered a 9.1 version of Mandrake, if that does not work then I will have to work deeper or change equipment to make all of this work.

Many thanks to all for suggestions.
