i backed up all my files on my linux HD thinking they would be safe so i can format my fat32 HD . well i formated and now i cant get the files back heh , i tried explore2fs but it doesnt work with large files , it uses up so much resources i guess . all i know is i have like 8 gb free and after 15 min of HD thrashing , it says their isnt enough space to transfer a 700 mb file heh.
there has to be something , i cant be the frist with this problem , anyone have a lil help they can send my way?
thnx
Do you still have linux installed on the machine? If so, you're probably better off booting into linux, mounting the FAT32 partition and transferring the files over within linux. Just an idea...

are the files stored on a separate partition to the system files, or is everything on /
if they are on a separate partition such as /home or something you can re-install minimal and not format the above and your files will still be there when you boot into linux
recover the files and do as you wish from them on

Actually what you can do is get a floppy distro and then from there mount both your previous linux partition and your fat32 partition then voila.. :)

isnt demolinux a viable option as it runs from cd and you can do what you want i think
also the suse 7.2 cd only version is available from www.linuxiso.org (http://www.linuxiso.org)

why not use the installation CD? It has a rescue option or at least Red Hat does. I'm sure a lot of the other's do too.

Could even do a reinstall, just don't format.
When you do get back into linux, make a boot disk ;)
