Ok, this is my idea for a portable MP3 player.

I’m taking an old laptop with a Pentium 133 processor and like 32 megs of RAM, a sound card with audio in and out jacks, and a 4 GB hard drive. I’m going to use the minimal install of Linux Mandrake 8.1 that I can and find a program that will build a play list and play MP3’s. The audio in and out wires will be so that I can plug the laptop into a bigger sound system.

Can anyone tell me any problems they see that I might have with this setup? Also I need to know how to make Linux automatically load up the play list editor when it boots up. If possible I would like it not to load a window manager such as KDE but go directly into the play list editor but still have a GUI. Is that possible?

I appreciate any help someone can give me on this.

Just a thought....my Compaq Presario 1621 laptop (k6-2 233mhz, 96mb of ram, sb compatible sound chip) dosen't work well with mp3s...they keep skipping, unless I play them back at somthing like 32khz, and decoding everything into a mono track. Then they still skip, but you can listen to them. It could quite possibly be my laptop though.
