I'm looking to build an LFS system. Just wondering if anybody has done this and what their thoughts are on it. Is it a waste of time? Another thing, has anybody ever heard of Voice Recognition security for Linux? You speak a pass phrase and the it allows you to login? Just thought that would be neat to give a shot on.

Thanks,
Jason Bush

Voice recognition security? Mmmm...nope, can't say that I have. Though, kewl idea...but...more likely a waste of time at the moment.

LFS? Definitely a good idea. Doing anything with Linux is never a bad idea. :D

LFS is not a bad idea, however it can be time consuming. I ran an LFS system I built for about a year before switching to Debian. It can be a good learning experience, but other than that, does not offer many substantial benefits over a well made distro such as Debian.

It is awesome. I had a system up for a few months on LFS and it just kicked ***.

My HD died. Damn.

Now I am running slack and itching to do another LFS. It isn't really that hard. You will learn much.

Hi All!
If I can get slack up and running, I am gonna give LFS a shot too. I read through the whole of their latest book last night, and it looks fairly straight forward, and I learnt alot just from reading it, can't wait to try it :D

Also I liked the look of their auto LFS, haven't checked into yet, but it sounds like you could use it to make your own distro...

Anyone wanna try NekoLinux :p

PS I would like NekoLinux to start installing from windows, grab all the hardware info it needs before it reboots into a quick install :) Any ideas?

Sounds like I'm going to go for it. To bad on the voice security thing, I'm sure its around, but I'm not advanced enough to program it myself and implement it into the OS :( I currently run Slack 8.0, not hardly any complaints, except I find program crashing a lot in KDE. Not sure if its slack, or what, but I figure if I custom build an LFS system from the ground up it may run smoother, and I'd learn more. Now I gotta go download everything.
